Flock Safety has announced four new software updates to its Flock Aerodome platform, the software that powers its Drone as First Responder (DFR) system. The updates, developed from agency feedback, are focused on giving operators more flexibility and capability in the field.
Mobile Ops
Mobile Ops allows operators to launch and manage a full DFR mission from an iPhone or Android device via the Flock Aerodome app. Previously, DFR operations required a staffed pilot seat at a fixed workstation. With Mobile Ops, patrol officers in the field can now dispatch drones, view thermal and zoom imagery, and return the drone to its dock without being at a desk. This is particularly relevant for smaller agencies or overnight shifts where dedicated DFR staffing is not practical.
Vehicle Follow
Vehicle Follow enables the drone and camera to autonomously track a moving vehicle with a single click, matching its speed and direction. The feature also predicts vehicle paths when they pass behind buildings or trees. This frees the operator to focus on collecting evidence and communicating with ground units rather than manually flying. It can be paired with the new Inflight LPR feature for real-time plate checks during a pursuit.
Inflight LPR
Inflight LPR turns any Flock drone camera into an airborne license plate reader. As the operator zooms in on a plate, the system automatically runs it against agency hotlists and sends an alert if there is a hit. The check happens without the operator needing to pause the mission or involve additional staff. Results feed directly into the Flock ecosystem.
Multi-Drone Operations
With the appropriate FAA waiver, a single operator can now control up to 4 drones simultaneously. Operators can launch drones from multiple stations, switch between live video feeds, and respond to more than 1 incident at a time. Non-active drones can hover or follow automated flight paths while the operator manages other aircraft.
